Modern dentistry increasingly relies on specialized technologies and innovative treatment methods that involve not only dentists but also the entire practice team. Continuous training for dental assistants plays a central role in this. Recently, all assistants in our practice received comprehensive training in EMS (Electro Medical Systems) technology—a decisive step toward optimizing patient care and practice procedures.
What is EMS?
EMS is a technology that is primarily used in professional teeth cleaning and periodontitis therapy. It is based on an innovative air and powder jet system that gently and effectively cleans teeth without damaging the tooth surfaces. In addition to the gentle removal of biofilm, plaque, and discoloration, EMS technology also enables minimally invasive treatment of gum disease.
Objectives of EMS training
The main objective of the EMS training was to familiarize all assistants with the handling and specific functions of the EMS system. The training included both theoretical knowledge and practical exercises. The aim was to apply the techniques for biofilm removal, teeth cleaning, and periodontitis treatment with the utmost precision and patient-friendliness. In addition, participants learned how to make treatment painless and efficient, which significantly increases patient comfort and satisfaction.
Expanded responsibilities for the team
Thanks to the training, the assistants now have a sound knowledge of how the EMS system works and can integrate the technology into their daily work in a targeted manner. This not only strengthens their professional skills, but also their confidence in using state-of-the-art technology. They are now able to perform high-quality dental prophylaxis treatments independently and make optimal use of the EMS system.
Comprehensive EMS training offers numerous advantages for both practitioners and patients. The trained application of EMS technology can shorten treatment times and improve results. For patients, this means pleasant and effective teeth cleaning that is gentle and virtually painless. In addition, regular and professional use of EMS contributes significantly to the prevention of tooth and gum disease, promoting long-term oral health.
